Children’s Folk Ensemble Stonozka
The children’s folklore ensemble Stonožka was founded in June 2011. The central objective of the ensemble was to unify the children of the Sydney Slovak community through their experience with traditional dance, music and poetry to deepen their relationship with Slovak culture folklore and the traditions of their ancestors.
The group meets Friday at 6.30 pm at the Slovak hall in Lidcombe, where children learn folk dances, and songs from various regions of Slovakia. After rehearsal they like to play traditional Slovak games and listen to traditional Slovak tales.
Stonožka is a small ensemble with a big heart
Stonožka’s regular touring has enriched the cultural and social life of Slovaks not only in Sydney, but also in other Australian cities. We are also actively involved in church life at St Cyril and Methodius Church in Lidcombe. Additionally, participating in various events outside of the Slovak community, we can promote and foster Slovakia, its culture, traditions and folklore.
The children’s ensemble STONOŽKA is associated with, and supported by the Slovak Centre of St. Cyril and Methodius in Lidcombe. The office for Slovaks Living Abroad has also supported the work of Stonožka.
Our doors are always open to all children who wish to dance, sing, and play with us.
