Not even 48 hours after their successful performance at the Royal Easter Show on Sunday, March 20th, Stonožka once again was applauded by the Australian public. This time at the 18th Children’s Festival 2016 at Circular Quay near the famous Opera House. Multicultural harmony has shone through for many Sydneysiders, tourists and thousands of intrigued onlookers from the international cruise ship docked nearby.

More than 30 ensembles, children dressed in their ethnic costumes have danced and sang traditional numbers from their respective homelands. Some of the children wouldn’t even be 5 years old, but they have held their rhythm and enchanted spectators with their cute charm and talent. Not even afternoon showers could spoil the spectacle and the show kept on entertaining spectators hidden under their umbrellas and makeshift blankets.

Organisers have been full of praise for the performing children, appreciating their commitment, passion and discipline. They have also lauded the children for embracing the cultural heritage of their forefathers as well as for their beautiful contribution to the Australian cultural diversity.

Royal Easter Show

In March, the month of Easter celebration is all about family festivities. Naturally, the Royal Easter Show is the perfect place to enjoy unforgettable family moments. For the second time Stonožka has taken active part in this great event. Among a high number of popular dance groups from all parts of Sydney, Stonožka had the honour to exhibit their unique skills in folk dance. Showing off the beautiful traditional dancing styles of Slovakia.

Children of the Sydney Slovak Community in two age groups performed particular dances in beautiful traditional Slovak costumes or ‘kroj’. The older children’s group danced with great enthusiasm, passion and presented a unique cultural experience for their audience. Also the little ones could not have been better. Altogether they represented a children’s group that really enjoys traditional music and dance. The audience was thrilled to experience a traditional Slovak song sang by very talented young Claudia Holy from the older group. What a pleasure to see these two Slovak groups growing in Australia with their willingness to sustain their cultural traditions and values, not only due to their parents wishes, but from the children’s love of being Slovak.

The Slovak community in Sydney is proud that our Slovak traditions and values live on in these young generations through dance, music and friendships. Great deal of gratitude goes to our children’s trainer Ivana Pašovičová, who truly inspires our children and community. Without her passionate dedication, patience and discipline Stonožka would not be such a coherent group capable of performing with such ease and good spirits at the Royal Easter Show as well as other cultural festivals.

Veľkonočné Sviatky

Veľká Noc je najväčším sviatkom v kresťanskom kalendári a my sme hrdí na to, že sme ju aj tento rok oslávili s náležitým rešpektom a vážnosťou. Tohtoročné Veľkonočné sviatky mali svoju osobitnú atmosféru, keď sme Svätý týždeň spoločne slávili omšami v našom kostole a zakončili ho požehnaným zmŕtvychvstaním nášho Pána a oslavnou Veľkonočnou nedeľnou omšou.

Náš kostol Sv Cyrila a Metoda bol opäť raz plný do posledného možného miestečka a spolu sme prežili nezabudnuteľný zážitok vedený naším obetavým kaplánom Henrym Adlerom, SVD. Pátos tejto významnej svätej omše ešte znásobili Krst, Prvé sväté prijímanie a Birmovka nových členov našej Komunity. Ozdobou omše bol k slzám dojímajúci spev Ivanky Pašovičovej, kedy pri slovách piesne “Hallelujah” nebolo snáď počuť ani ľudí dýchať. Rovnako intenzívna a dojímavá bola aj hra na harfe v podaní mladučkej Ninky Fowler, ktorá, ako pripomenul Otec Henry Adler, znela aj v časoch Kráľa Dávida, ktoré biblia často spomína.

Po omši sme v komunitnej hale pokračovali vo veľkonočných oslavách najprv skvostným obedom a potom plnú sálu roztlieskala Stonožka svojimi radostnými tancami a spevom. No a na záver nechýbala ani narodeninová oslava, po ktorej nasledovala voľná zábava až do neskorého popoludnia.

Bol to veľmi pekný a dojímavý deň a my sme zaň veľmi vďační! Ďakujeme všetkým za ich podiel na príprave celého Svätého týždňa, ako aj takéhoto krásneho podujatia. Naša najväčšia vďaka však patrí nášmu otcovi Henrymu za jeho dobrotu a veľkú obetavosť pre našu Komunitu.

Canberra

Už piaty rok bola Stonožka pozvaná Slovenským Veľvyslanectvom, vystúpiť v programe aby potešila krajanov svojim tancom a spevom na ľudovú nôtu.V meste sa konal 20. ročník Multikulturálneho Festivalu. Deväť pódií, stánky jedál z rôznych kútov sveta, národné súbory v rôznofarebných krojoch, atmosféra plná hudby, spevu, smiechu, potlesku a tanca a tak ako po minulé roky aj tento rok program tohoto festivalu obohatilo aj vystúpenie DFS Stonožka. Vystúpenie v Canberre bolo tento rok výnimočnejšie aj vďaka účasti malej Stonožky, ktorá prvýkrát podstúpila celodenné vystúpenie za účasti celého súboru.

Tréning

Stonožka rozbehla tohtoročnú tréningovú sezónu v hrdých tričkách a mikinách za ktoré ďakujeme Úradu pre Slovákov žijúcich v zahraničí a Slovenskej katolíckej komunite v Sydney.
