Annual General Assembly of the Slovak Catholic Community
Annual General Assembly of the Slovak Catholic Community was held on November 2, 2014 in the community hall at our Slovak Catholic Centre of Sts Cyril & Methodius in Lidcombe under the watchful eyes of 54 members.
The main program of the Assembly has included presentations of the Annual Community activity report and the Financial report, including the Financial auditor’s report, for the past fiscal year and a Summary of grants from the Úrad pre Slovákov žijúcich v zahraničí (Office of Slovaks living in overseas). These have been followed by a preliminary plan of activities for next year.
After these presentations the chairman of the Assembly has thanked all active members for their voluntary work and their selfless support of the Community.
This Annual General Assembly has however also got a more significant flavour due to the bi-annual Executive Committee elections. From ten nominated candidates these following candidates have been voted into a new 9 seat Executive Committee:
Miroslav Jendruch, Mária Hupková, Milan Holý, Agneša Kubizniaková, Ján Longauer, Daniela Bachratá, Radovan Furčák, Mária Smolejová a Boris Gašpar Jr.
We’d like to take this opportunity and congratulate all elected members upon their successful candidacy as well as to extend our gratitude to all of the previous Executive Committee members for their dedication and hard work .
Another important matter for discussion has been a long prepared and legally drafted proposal for a restructuring of our Community to become a A Private Association of Christ’s Faithful. Standing of this Association would be appropriately defined legally as well as canonically and all of its assets, including the church, would be adequately protected from any misappropriation or an unwanted sale. And the most importantly, this Association would keep maintaining our national, religious and cultural identity and traditions. This proposal has been approved by a four-fifth majority of present members.
