The Celebration of the Eucharist

The celebration of the Eucharist is the pinnacle and heart of our spiritual life. It gives our community identity and brings all into communion. As you share in the celebration of the Eucharist in our Church may you be drawn deeper into the mystery of Christ among us and be more keenly aware of God’s great love for you.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)

To reconcile is to re-unite, to bring back to harmony, to heal division, separation or rupture. The Christian perspective seeks reconciliation with God, with one another, between nations and with our environment. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity and come back home!

Liturgy Committee

The Liturgy Committee with the Priest is responsible for all liturgical celebrations in our church. The Committee meets monthly. The Committee plans, prepares and oversees the liturgies with the intention of making them as meaningful and inspirational as possible.

Altar Servers

The ministry of the altar server is to serve at the altar, assisting the priest. The particular duties of altar servers include the preparation of the altar and the vessels for Mass and the special duties of cross-bearer, candle-bearers. Altar servers also bear the bread, wine and water.
We are fortunate to have an enthusiastic group of young people committed to the service of the altar during our liturgical celebrations. If you would like to become a server please speak to the priest.

Ministers of the Word

Ministers of the Word or Readers have the important task of proclaiming the Word of God, contained in the Holy Scriptures at Sundays and weekday Masses.
New members are always welcome. Readers do not need to be professional speakers. All that is needed is preparation, a clear voice, and a willingness to be committed to a regular timetable. Please see the priest if you are interested.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priest in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. They also take the Blessed Sacrament to the sick and housebound.

Music Ministry

The Music Ministry gives praise and worship to the Lord through the solemnity and purity of song and instils participation and oneness of the congregation. We are very fortunate to have a very dedicated organist in our church, but the Ministry always welcomes new members willing to share their musical gifts and serving the community by improving our music and singing during our liturgies.

Lent – a new way of living

On March 5, 2014 we begin the Lenten season. The three traditional practices of lent are prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
At Mass on Ash Wednesday, the imposition of ashes replicates an ancient penitential practice and symbolizes our dependence upon God’s mercy and forgiveness.

The Church asks us to surrender ourselves to prayer and to the reading of Scripture, to fasting and to giving alms. We fast together on Fridays as a sign of the daily Lenten discipline of individuals and households; fasting for certain periods of time, fasting from certain foods, but also fasting from other things and activities. Likewise, the giving of alms is some effort to share this world equally—not only through the distribution of money, but through the sharing of our time and talents.

The key to fruitful observance of these practices is to recognize their link to baptismal renewal. We are called not just to abstain from sin during Lent, but to true conversion of our hearts and minds as followers of Christ. We recall those waters in which we were baptized into Christ’s death, died to sin and evil, and began new life in Christ.
