Today we are brought back to the night of the\u00a0Last Supper. We take our places with the Twelve Apostles, gathered around the sacred table with Christ, Our Lord. We\u00a0listen\u00a0to his words, which are both mysterious and glorious. It is Christ’s\u00a0last meal\u00a0with his closest followers. He wants to leave them a\u00a0parting gift. What is it? What does Christ want to bequeath to his Apostles at the Last Supper? Peace. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” And what does he\u00a0mean\u00a0by peace? Not what we usually think: “Not as the world gives do I give it to you.”<\/p>\n

Christ’s peace is\u00a0lasting. It is interior\u00a0peace of heart, which\u00a0overflows\u00a0into peace in families, in communities, in entire nations. It is the peace that comes from knowing without any doubt whatsoever that we are\u00a0loved\u00a0by him. It is the peace that comes from knowing without any doubt whatsoever that whenever we offend him, he will always be\u00a0ready to forgive us. It is the peace that comes from knowing without any doubt whatsoever that we have a\u00a0purpose\u00a0in life, a\u00a0mission\u00a0– the very mission that Christ himself has given us:\u00a0to spread his Kingdom. As today’s Psalm puts it, to “make his way known upon earth; among all nations, his salvation.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
