2013 Holy Week and Easter
The Slovak Catolic Church bin Lidcombe invites the community to join in services to reflect the last week of Christ’s life, his last supper with the disciples, his death and crucifixion, and then the joyful celebration of his resurrection from the dead on Easter morning.
Palm Sunday: Sunday, March 24, 10.15 a.m.
This Eucharistic celebration focuses on Jesus’ triumphant arrival in Jerusalem among cheering crowds. The service will include the blessing of palms and the proclamation of Christ’s Passion according to the Gospel of Luke, 22, 14-23,56.
Holy Thursday, March 28, 7.00 p.m.
The Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper will commemorate the institution of the Eucharist and or the sacrament of priesthood. The priest will wash the feet of six members of the community to symbolize Christ’s washing the feet of his twelve Apostles.
Good Friday, March 29, 3.00 p.m.
The liturgy of Good Friday is the most sober of the entire Church year—restrained and straightforward. The altar is bare, without cloths, candles or cross. We will listed to the proclamation of Jesus’ Passion according to John and venerate the symbol of our salvation – the Cross. There are no greetings, genuflections, opening songs, processions. We simply come and prostrate in humble submission before the Word and the glorious cross of Christ.
Easter Vigil, Saturday, March 30, 7.00 p.m.
The dramatic Easter vigil liturgy marks the beginning of Easter. We are awaiting our master’s return with our lamps full and burning, so that he will find us awake and seat us at his table. All Catholic should try to attend this beautiful service. The vigil is divided into four parts: 1) service of light, 2) liturgy of the Word, 3) liturgy of Baptism, and 4) liturgy of the Eucharist.
Easter Sunday, March 31, 10.15 a.m.
Easter is the greatest feast in the Christian calendar. On this Sunday, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Come and join us as we celebrate the very essence of our Christian life.
Easter Monday, April 1, 10.15 a.m.
Following our ancient tradition, we gather again on Easter Monday, to continue to reflect on the mystery of Christ’s Resurrection, the focal point and heart of our Christian Faith.
