Slovak Day ‘19
On Sunday, 24th November 2019, we celebrated our traditional Slovak Day after an one year gap and this was the 45th edition of this annual event.
This year’s preparation for the traditional Slovak Day celebrations at the Colo River have been severely compromised by the raging bushfires all around the Sydney basin. At the last moment we were forced to move our event to the Czechoslovakian Country Club at Kemps Creek. Despite this late change of venue we’ve enjoyed a strong attendance. Many countrymen have praised the hospitality of the Club and delighted over a pleasant atmosphere of the proceedings in the new surroundings.

After the Christ the King holy mass, celebrated by f. Henry Adler SVD, the Slovak Day festivities have begun with a short entertainment program. The chairman, Jan Longauer, had greeted all the gathered guests before Zuzka Kovačič recapitulated many significant historical events in the life of our Slovak Catholic Community in Sydney and invited all countrymen to join her in the feast of our traditional gourmet meals and jovial festivities. The main attraction of the entertainment program was 13 years old Emma Halamko with her three rounds of the modern solo dancing. Our festivities then continued late into the afternoon with the spirited folk song singing and joyful ball room dancing.
